On the 100 year anniversary, March 16, 2026, the Museum of Worcester will open the exhibit Worcester to the Stars: The Goddard Rocket Centennial.

Father of Modern Rocketry
On March 16, 1926. he took a homemade rocket to Ward Farm in Auburn and launched it successfully.

You can thank this boy for communication (TV, internet, phone), navigation (GPS for cars, phones, banking), weather forecasting, and Earth observation (climate, agriculture, disaster response).
It would be the beginning of the space age. The Worcester-born and educated Goddard would change the world as we know it today.
The exhibit celebrates Goddard’s New England can-do spirit and ability to achieve his highest dreams, including periods of his life as a student at Worcester’s South High School through his professorship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Clark University. Our newest exhibit celebrates Dr. Goddard’s accomplishments by bringing together his story from multiple institutions as we celebrate his contribution to the world. The exhibit features artifacts and images from Clark University, WPI, Roswell Museum & Art Center, NASA, The Smithsonian Institution, Fort Devens Museum, David Clark Company and private collections.
