TidePool Press (Spring 2026)
From the Civil War until the 1980s, a small New England city became world-renowned for the corsets it produced. A Proper Fit tells the stories of many of the female corset workers of Worcester, Massachusetts, among them sole proprietor “corsetieres” who created corsets over decades for their regular customers, a corset factory forewoman, a patent holder who became a millionaire and an Ohio transplant who was a pioneering designer and manufacturer in her field. Through these personal profiles we end up with an industrial history, a history of the corset and a story of women at work in the early 20th century.
